Review of Fighting for Everything by Laura Kaye

*** ARC Received for Honest Review ***

4.5 Stars

I felt that this book is so relevant today regarding the struggle that a lot of Veterans face returning from combat. The fight that Noah goes through battling his physical and mental demons following his leaving the military is insightful and heartbreaking to read about. I have always known about the high rate of suicide and struggle with depression and PTSD of military persons returning from combat, but Laura makes it so personal and real with Noah.

The relationship that blooms from a deep friendship and the realization of what has always been there between Kristina and Noah is beautiful to read about. Mental illness in general is such a hard topic to address and Laura is able to do so from a few different aspects, and she does it so well. Great read. (Review by Terri “Jane”)

Fighting for Everything by Laura Kaye is Now Available…

From New York Times bestselling author Laura Kaye, comes the first standalone title in her brand, new Warrior Fight Club series, FIGHTING FOR EVERYTHING. Join the Warrior Fight Club world today!

Loving her is the biggest fight of his life…

Home from the Marines, Noah Cortez has a secret he doesn’t want his oldest friend, Kristina Moore, to know. It kills him to push her away, especially when he’s noticing just how sexy and confident she’s become in his absence. But, angry and full of fight, he’s not the same man anymore either. Which is why Warrior Fight Club sounds so good.

Kristina loves teaching, but she wants more out of life. She wants Noah—the boy she’s crushed on and waited for. Except Noah is all man now—in ways both oh so good and troubling, too. Still, she wants who he’s become—every war-hardened inch. And when they finally stop fighting their attraction, it’s everything Kristina never dared hope for.

But Noah is secretly spiraling, and when he lashes out, it threatens what he and Kristina have found. The brotherhood of the fight club helps him confront his demons, but only Noah can convince the woman he loves that he’s finally ready to fight for everything.

Review of Filthy Gods by R. Scarlett

Filthy Gods (American Gods 0.5), an all-new Sexy Romance by R. Scarlett is AVAILABLE NOW!!

 Review of Filthy God

*** ARC Received ***

This intro in the American Gods series is WONDERFUL! If you like new adult full of angst, and hot, wealthy, (much too young for me) men you will swoon over this read. It has completely captured me and I am going to be all in on this series. I can’t wait to read more about the American Gods!

This book revolves around Nathaniel, not necessarily one of the American Gods, but definitely in the inner circle of wealthy, young, good looking, Yale attending men. He has been enraptured by Juliette since their first days at Yale when she turned him down for a date.

They have competed, argued, and butted heads in the classroom for the past three years. When Nathaniel sees his chance to corner Juliette into more he takes it. You so want to read this series! Check out this amazing intro. (Review by Terri “Jane”)

****5 STARS****
****ARC Received for Honest Review****

Hot freaking gosh damn….if this is just that taste of what we are to read in the next books, sign me the freak up…not cussing since Amazon doesn’t like that. New Adult, egotistical, elitist, wealth, inner circles, drama and angst….what the hell else do you want in a book, and this was just the novella.

Nathaniel is the man at the center of all things wealth, hotness, and the inner circle of Yale, and he is everything that Juliette can’t stand. But, she is all he has had on his mind for three years and they have gone against each other in classes and outside of class and finally, Nathaniel may have found a way to weasel his way past her armor….so freaking legit you guys….-Review by Catherine(Catty)

Prelude in the American Gods series.

Young. Wealthy. Elite. Attractive. The gentlemen’s secret society at Yale was filled with them.

And Nathaniel Radcliffe, the bane of my existence, was one of them.

As the right hand of the American Gods, he was conceited and arrogant. A dangerously handsome man in a tailored custom suit and shiny black oxford loafers.

The classroom was our battlefield. We made a sport out of arguing and debating, ready to do anything in order to win over the other.

Deadly opponents, deadlier minds.

I’d sworn I’d never give him the upper hand, until…

The secret I’ve been hiding for the last three years?

He just discovered it…and now he has all the power.

About R. Scarlett

R. Scarlett lives in a small quaint town in Southern Ontario, Canada and has an unhealthy obsession with mythology and romance.

From studying English literature and minoring in History, she loves losing herself in a good book and snuggling up to her Brittany Spaniel.

When she’s not writing or plotting a delicious novel, she can be found hanging out with friends and family, going on long car rides, exploring small towns, or watching reruns of Sex and the City.

About JUST PRETEND:

When yet another publisher rejects Hannah’s most recent book due to poor love scenes, she concocts a fail-proof plan to increase her creativity… spine-tingling, no strings attached sex. Exclusive Excerpt:

I swipe the green circle to the right and bring the phone up to my ear.

“God, I’ve never been so happy to hear that song.”

He sighs in disgust. “Don’t tell me you still have The Golden Girls song set as my ringtone.”

I smile just at the sound of his voice. “Yep. And I’m never gonna change it.”

He laughs. “You’re a weird one.”

I hold my phone with my cheek and shoulder as I pull my hair up into a ponytail. “And you’re stuck with me.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

It could just be me or my shitty cell connection, but Logan’s voice sounds much deeper than usual. I reach under my bed and retrieve my basket of nail polishes. “What color?”

He ponders my question for a minute before he answers. “Red. Wait. Toes, or fingers?”

I laugh. He always knows just what to say to split my sides. “Toes.”

“Toes? What’s the special occasion?” The shock in his voice amuses me.

“Why does it have to be a special occasion?”

“Because I know you, Han. The last time you painted your toes was homecoming. And then the time before that it was your birthday.” I see his point.

“Fine, you got me. I’m leaving for Daytona Beach in a couple of hours. The girls and I are having a beach day to kick off Spring Break.” He lets out a long oh before he speaks.

“In that case, better make it blue.”

He peaks my interest, causing me to furrow my brow. “How come?”

“Blue is less noticeable. And since I’m not there to kick whichever sorry ass tries to hit on you, blue it is.”

I contemplate whether or not to fight him on his protective stance. Oh, what the hell. It’ll be fun. “So, purple it is.”

“Don’t you fucking dare paint them purple,” he growls, catching me off guard. The assertiveness in his tone causes my legs to tingle. I ignore it.

“Too late. The first coat is on already.”

His voice remains stern as he reprimands me. “Don’t make me fly my ass down there and rip every speck of purple off your nails.”

“You wouldn’t,” I tease, trying my best not to laugh at his overreaction.

He clears his throat. “Don’t test me.”

About J.P. Nicolas:

J.P. Nicholas has the great misfortune to be A Male Romance Writer. Turns out, men are also hopeless romantics, given half the chance, and Nicholas’ fascination with love began long before he could write. His parents—high school sweethearts who are still mad for each other—left him enamored with the idea of true love, and its ability to transform and redeem even the most jaded soul. Nicholas lives to capture this magic, lust, and passion on the page; his characters known for their sizzling chemistry and chest-squeezing plot lines.

When J.P. Nicholas isn’t tapping away at his laptop, he can be found in his home state of Florida, binge-watching This Is Us with his girlfriend, or devouring Italian food with his family. His latest novel, Just Pretend, is a friends-to-lovers drama and the first in his new Sandy Heights series, to be released in June.

BLURB:

“Luca….”

She whispers my name at night, filling my dreams with her haunting beauty.

Her tormented amber eyes beg me for something I don’t understand, and her agonizing pain becomes my own.

For years, she’s come to me, calling my name.

For years, I’ve never known who she was.

Until now….

CHECK OUT THIS EXCERPT FROM THE SINISTER SILHOUETTE!!!

LUCA….”
The willowy feminine voice comes from behind me. I slowly turn my head first, then the rest of my body and look for the source.

Blackness. Pure and absolute. That’s all I see. Except for the tiny twinkling lights. There’s a shit ton of them. It reminds me of the times I would spend the summers with my aunt and uncle out in the country. As a kid, I would always sneak out at night and lie on the roof when the sky was clear and the moon wasn’t visible. It was my favorite time of the month, because everything was so dark, except for the stars. I’d lie out there for hours and just watch them twinkle, every so often catching one that soared across the black sky.

These aren’t stars, it isn’t a moonless sky, and I don’t fucking like this. These tiny sparks of light float right in front of me, all around me, almost like glowing specks of dust.

“Lucccaaaa….”

Warm air whispers across my ear, and I spin, expecting to find someone behind me, and still see nothing but those damn flecks of light. Squinting, I try to look past them and the darkness to see something. Any fucking thing.

Frustration grows in my stomach when nothing appears.

“Who in the hell are you?” I yell, anger deepening my voice into a growl.

My ears strain as I listen closely. All I hear is my own breathing and the slight pounding in my ears from my heartbeat. The beat only gets louder with my mounting aggravation.

“Luca.”

This time, the voice sounds rushed. It’s still whispered softly, but not the slow calling of the other two times. It’s urgent. There’s an echo too. It comes from behind me, but the echo drifts around me from every direction.

I tip my head back and snarl to the… ceiling? The sky? I have no fucking clue. “What in the hell do you want from me?”

Not expecting an answer, because I didn’t get one to my previous question, I’m surprised when the voice comes again. It’s close. So close, it almost seems like the words aren’t spoken out loud, but are just somehow in my head.

“I need you.”

My brows slash down into a frown. There’s pain in the softly spoken words, and for some reason I don’t like the emotion coming from the voice. Something sharp pierces my chest, like a dull blade slowly being sunk into my sternum, taking my breath away. I rub the spot, not understanding why the pain is there, but knowing it’s caused by the agony in the woman’s voice.

“Where are you?” My tone is gruff from the stinging ache.

“Here,” she whispers.

I whip around and still see nothing but the twinkling lights. I reach out, hoping that even if I can’t see anything, I can feel something. It’s so dark I can’t even see my hand in front of me, only the tiny lights floating by in a rush at my hurried movement.

One catches my eye off in the distance about fifteen feet from me, and I hone in on it. It’s slightly bigger than the rest. I take a step forward, then stop when it begins to grow. It doesn’t get brighter; the luminosity stays the same. It’s just the size that changes. Actually, it looks like the light is dimming the bigger it gets. Like it’s no longer a light, but a fog-like substance. It stretches longways, getting greater and greater. I start moving toward it, but no matter how many steps I take, the same distance stays between it and me.

Something starts to form in the white haze. I squint, not really sure what it is, because it’s almost transparent now. It’s still growing, but the bigger it gets, the more it loses its solidness.

A face.

I can barely make it out through the white haze, but it’s a woman. Her features become clearer, but the more the face forms, the more it fades as well.

I take a couple of steps forward, then jerk to a halt when I remember it does me no good.

“Fuck,” I mutter.

What in the hell is this shit?

“Lucaaaa….”

The voice whispers again, and I know it’s from the translucent vision, but the lips don’t move.

The face becomes a face and shoulders, then face, shoulders, arms, and torso. Her hair flows around her, moving slowly, like it’s floating in water.

She looks at me, and the stark pain in her eyes almost has me staggering back with the force of it.

I really don’t fucking like that look. And I really don’t fucking know why. I’ve never seen the woman before. She doesn’t even look vaguely familiar. Why in the hell would her pain be my pain?

“Who are you?” I demand.

Again, her lips don’t move, but I still hear the voice inside my head. “Come to me, Luca. I need you.”

Before I have the chance to react to her words, something happens. I tense as swarms of the nearby glowing dust infuse the white mist of the woman. Her crystalline appearance starts to solidify. Her face and the upper half of her body become more visible. Her hair, which up until that point was colorless, is a deep, rich brown. It’s long, flowing to the middle of her back. Her eyes are light brown, but not an ordinary brown. They’re an unusual golden amber. I’m not sure if it’s because of her noncorporeal appearance or if that’s their natural color, but they seem to glow.

More specks of dust penetrate the woman’s form, and the more that rushes in, the brighter she gets.

She lifts her arm, as if reaching out to me, and before it registers what I’m doing, I reach out to her.

When I take a step closer, the light surrounding her shimmers brighter. This time I’m able to shorten the gap between us. I take another step, and it seems to glisten even more. I’m tall, so when I take my next step, there’s only a few feet separating us. But the brightness is now almost too much to bear. I have to squint from the sheer brilliance of it.

There’s only inches between the tips of her fingers and mine now. The pain resting in my chest intensifies the closer I get, but it’s as if there’s a force that’s pushing me toward her. Like if I don’t, the pain would be a thousand times worse. I don’t know why, but something inside me says I must go to her.

I hold my breath as the tip of my middle finger touches the glowing tip of hers. Several things happen at once. A low growl resonates deep in the back of my throat, my fingers curl into a fist and my arm drops to my side, and the fierce pain I was experiencing in my chest turns so excruciating I’d swear my heart is spilling out onto the floor at my feet.

The trifecta of feelings happens because the instant my fingertips touch the woman, her form disintegrates. The thousands of pieces of dust that make up her form fall away into space, leaving me once again in complete blackness.

I tip my head back and an angry, pain-filled roar leaves my lips at the loss of something so important.

Review of Piece of Work by Staci Hart

*** ARC Received for Honest Review ***
4 Stars
I always love Staci. She never disappoints and this is no exception. Staci has created such an amazing, strong female character. Rin is a woman who starts out being self conscience and wanting to be invisible and then transforms into this strong, very confident woman who embraces everything that had made her insecure.
Court is opposite in so many ways. His confidence is over the top, very sure of himself and his capabilities. Too bad he was burned so bad by his ex-girlfriend and raised by a cold, demanding father, that his ability to let himself care and fall in love is basically non-existent.
These two more often than not seem to get in their own way. It is so fun to watch them finally figure it out. I can’t wait to read more from Staci! (Review by Terri “Jane”)

Marble isn’t the only thing that’s hard at this museum.

His body is as chiseled as Adonis. His lips are as sculpted as David. And his ego is the size of the Guggenheim.

You know the type—wolfish smile and the gravity of a black hole. The kind of man who sucks all the air from the room the second he enters it. My cocky boss thinks this internship was wasted on me, and he doesn’t hesitate to let me know.

But he’s wrong, and I’m going to prove it to him. If I can stay away from his devil lips, that is. Lips that cut me down and kiss me in the same breath, leaving me certain he’s on a mission to ruin my life.

Excerpt:

He smirked and flipped up his sunglasses.

Bastard.

“You’re early,” I clipped.

“I would have had my assistant text you, but she’s currently bedridden.”

You could have texted me.”

“I didn’t have your number,” he said simply.

“Oh.”

His eyes shifted to look behind me, and I turned to find my friends standing me in a row with my suitcase in front of them, my messenger bag on top, and fake smiles on all their faces, lips together, their judgment about as quiet as a foghorn.

“These your roommates?”

“Yup,” was all I said as I turned and took my suitcase, hugging each of them down the line with promises to text when we landed. And then I turned to Court, rolling my suitcase in front of me like like a riot shield.

I tried to pick it up to carry it over the threshold, but it was heavy, and before I could get far, he’d swept it out of my hands like it was a loaf of bread and not fifty pounds of mascara and shoes.

I waved at my friends, who offered encouraging smiles and hand gestures, and I closed that door, immediately regretting every decision I’d made to bring me to the moment I turned around.

He stood at the door to the backseat, holding it open for me like a gentleman, which I knew he was not. But the look on his face of regret and deference, under the hard shell of his brooding, was almost too much to bear.

So I did the only thing I could.

I ignored him.

I ignored his gorgeous lips as they tilted and the sleek cut of his jaw as I walked past him. I ignored the sight of his long legs as he climbed in next to me and the smell of him that made me want to grab him by the lapels of his jacket and bury my nose in his chest.

The driver took off, and I busied myself in my bag, looking for my headphones and book.

His eyes were on me. I pretended like I didn’t notice.

“You’re not wearing lipstick,” he stated.

Headphones, headphones, headphones. “It’s an international flight, Court. Of course I’m not wearing red lipstick for a ten hour flight.”

A pause. “Rin, I—”

Aha! I popped in my earbuds the second they were in hand.

His lips flattened, his face unamused. Rin, his lips said, but I smiled and shrugged, pointing to my ears.

“Noise canceling,” I said way too loud.

His chest rose and fell with a sigh I couldn’t hear—I’d already turned on music, a playlist we’d built the night before geared toward resisting douchery and unwanted-slash-totally-wanted advances—and he reached into his own bag, a leather affair at his feet, his hand disappearing into the bag and reappearing with a book, which he handed to me.

He watched me with his expression shrouded as I paused, my eyes on the offered book. An image of Penitent Magdalene by Tintoretto filled the cover, and I met his eyes, pulling my earbuds out by the cord.

“I thought you could use this. For your proposal,” he said, giving nothing away. “I…A colleague of mine wrote it, so if you have any questions, I can connect you. If you want.”

I took it from his hand, surprised and disarmed. “Thank you,” was all I said. He opened his mouth as if to speak again, but closed it, and with a nod, he reached back into his bag for his own book. Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake.

I put my earbuds back in place, trying not to bite my lip, but it found its way between my teeth despite the effort at the sight of him sitting there, dressed like that, reading Margaret Atwood. After giving me a thoughtful gift, a book he knew I would want, one I would need for my dissertation.

Court Lyons made about as much sense to me as a scrambled up Rubik’s Cube.

I leaned against the door as I flipped through his gift, doing my best to sort through the rush of questions and confusion as Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s sang about being cheated by the opposite of love. And I found I knew exactly the feeling.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
